What's Wrong With This Place?

Yeah, I live in the land of the free
Where magazines tell me I’m ugly
And society tells me who I should be
You know—anyone but me

What’s wrong with this place?
We’re told to embrace individuality
But I must change my appearance
And even my personality

Over 34 million tons yearly
Yeah, that’s what statistics say
We could feed a starving country
With the food we throw away

What’s wrong with this place?
We waste so much
And give so little
With our charitable side it’s time to get in touch

This is America, the home of the brave
The military recruits young men and women to enslave
They’re taught how to behave and given lives to save
Then sent to an early grave

What’s wrong with this place?
Innocent lives are put at stake
By fighting unnecessary wars
For reputation’s sake

We obsess over material things
And long for the contentment wealth brings
Everyone wants to live like kings
Because poverty’s reality stings

What’s wrong with this place?
Tax breaks reward the rich
And penalize the poor
Now that’s a b****

On honesty we’re told to rely
But we listen to politicians who lie
Legitimacy is in short supply
Yet there is no major outcry

What’s wrong with this place?
We want our voices to be heard
But some people are too lazy to vote
Isn't that absurd?

What’s wrong with this world?
Love of money fills us with greed
We always want more, more, more
But we should help those in need

What’s wrong with this world?
Truth becomes lies
The guilty are innocent
Honest people we’re taught to despise

What’s wrong with this world?
