this I believe
The other day I was sitting
sipping
a small latte
when I overheard the lady on my cup.
She looked around and whispered to me
She looked around and WHISPERED to me
She said, "I believe you need a wake up call."
I said, "I believe you're a figment of my imagination."
She said, "Perhaps, But is this what you truly believe?"
* * *
This I believe in the power of poetry.
EXPRESSIONS.
you can look back on good poetry and say,
"Dude, I FELT that."
you can look back on bad poetry and say,
"DUDE. I WAS that."
Because whether we are haikus
whether we are limericks
whether we are free verse;
songs
spoken word
We are all rhythms.
This I believe it.
Hear me:
Poetry sees the rhythm.
Good poetry reveals the rhythm.
Great poetry IS the rhythm.
And that's just it
We are great poetry.
Inside, outside, courtside, lopside
EVERYSIDE.
through and through - we are expressions.
And poetry is our song.
It has been there for us to use
ALL ALONG.
And WE DO.
We have all written poetry.
With and without pencils.
HEAR ME:
We have all written poetry.
Because we have lived it.
Each day
Every day
With hugs and hands and marching bands
With struggles and strife and kissing your wife
WE.
ARE.
-POETRY.
And we flow-
forever, together, and severe
From BIRTH to EARTH
We are the power.

The other day somebody asked me:
"Now, honey, what is it you believe?"
And I said nothing, and everything.
Because she asked a question she already knew.
This I believe in the power if poetry.
