American but Hyphenated
I am American but hyphenated
I wonder ones perception of a cross of two worlds
I hear the trouble we’ve faced through time
I see their eyes speaking their minds
I want to find my true identity
I am American but hyphenated
I pretend to mask the discomfort of being pre-judged
I feel the strain between the fringes of both worlds
I touch my pride and wonder if it’s right
I worry if I am perhaps inferior or perhaps even different
I cry for those seeking their true grounds
I am American but hyphenated
