Love as a Construct

Why do you hate me? All that I've put you through,
every facility and room, just showed how much I loved you.
There were signs that pointed out the dangers of my heart
but you only ever remembered the encouraging parts.

The silent cameras that watched every step you took
were the caring eyes that you'd find in a romance book.
The turrets’ lasers that followed your shadow
were the greatest warmth this place could allow.

The poison that seeped beneath your feet
was the smothering end a fool would meet.
The energy pellets you so carefully tried to ignore
were the sparks that brought light to an otherwise bore

Did you think that little cube was fake?
Did you think I lied about the cake?
Everything was built to use with you in mind
now if you look for my love,
I'm afraid a wreckage is all you'll find.
