A young man, barely grown,
Off to face his country,
To not be another drone,
Prepared to leave his family.

A noble cause, a steel will,
The need to prove them wrong,
Pushes him onward still,
Through thick and thin, still strong.

His pride strapped across his chest,
A backpack strung behind,
He climbs and hikes without rest
To clear his clouded mind.

Counsel from forefathers,
Guides him forward on foot,
To by peers not be bothered.
No one can make him stay put.

His only desire?
To be lost far away,
For greater things to aspire,
Than was offered by yesterday.

Promises made to no one,
No car, no map, no plan,
Except to rise with the sun
And find himself a man.

He walked into the wild,
Living alone in a blue bus,
No longer a child,
An inspiration to all of us.
