Lifeline

An open cut
tender, sensitive
burning as a swab of alcohol drips poison
wince
shove
restrain
then an appeasing lullaby
sending shivers invisible
like pain
down and up
repeat.
Gently you caress this hurt
and I weep your shirt dry
until the soothing sound
cannot be eluded.
Catching my eye of hypnosis
(drifting signs)
then a sweet kiss on the skin
you leave the goodbyes past
"Are you staying?" Lazy, drunk, I'm barely conscious.
"I will never leave again."
Please, don't.
