To Blink

A butterfly forever seeks
The security of an untouched place
Before it settles on the bloom
That human eyes will never burn

Like a golden angel gift-wrapped
In bows of joy and love
Delivered to a poor lost soul
With candle glow to guide

Your stubborn soul who’s lost its way
Watching dreams just roll away
And while you sit and stir and think
The tiny angel yawns and blinks

The flutters of her lashes
Yawns of wonder and surprise
That wake upon a foreign world
Of ivory soap and embroidered down

It brings to mind an innocence
With which she acts in every motion
A new clean slate, a new fresh start
Dependent on your every move

Your stubborn soul who’s lost its way
Watching dreams just roll away
And while you sit and stir and think
The tiny angel yawns and blinks

She blinks, she yawns
You feel so fragile
To know this gentle song
Believes that safety
And your love
Are the never ending same

And you know this as she wakes
And as she wakes she blinks.
