Along Came A Spider

i sit on this bench
by the old willow tree
watching the sunset
and along came a spider
he was black as night
i wasn't frightened by him
and he wasn't frightened by me
we watched the sunset
then parted ways
every afternoon we would meet
he was my best friend
and i was his
we grew old but still came to our spot
he died that cold afternoon
i buried him under the willow tree,
went home,
and told my grand kids the story
about how along came a spider
