"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love...and be loved in return..." -Christian, Moulin Rouge

When we closed our eyes as children
And our minds lolled of to sleep
What if we as older selves
Into young dreams could peep
Before we knew of horror
Did we dream in colored swirls
Oceans painted over with
Light pastel tinted whirls
As our bodies slumbered
Our souls from toes were raised
To drift through amber valleys
And dance where young minds graze
Through meadows under sunlight
Hillsides thick with morning dew
What our dreams must’ve been when
Beauty was all we knew
When we close our eyes at dusk
Will our groggy souls take flight
Once again to search in vain
A fruitless, tiring plight
To find the places we once knew
All caked with childhood tones
Oh, the innocence our dreams have lost
Now that we all have grown
A summer sun will set when
It seems life’s just begun
And we’ll find again the places
That we dream of when we’re young
