Painting a Lifetime

If each feeling was a spectrum,
And each thought had a shade,
A heart would never welcome
Those that fall and fade.

Happiness would measure
The wealth of all one's life.
But sadness would due sever
All that had been wrought in strife.

Each heart would be a painting,
Some drawn with leaden care,
Some blots only fleeting,
Wiped away, not to be shared.

A mind would be a montage,
Thoughts and memories spread out
To form a royal entourage
Sent off the tongue fear without.

Words would be snapshots,
Brief photos of heart and mind,
Framing emotion and thought,
Slender ties that forever bind.
