"A great man is always willing to be little."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s like a storm,
That steals your soul.
It breaks your heart,
And leaves a hole.

You may think you're lost.
But you're not on your own.
I know that cost,
And I'll never leave you alone.

I will stand by you.
I'll do all that I can do.
When you’ve done all you knew,
And you can't make it through.

If you find you can’t cope,
Let me be your hope.
I will fight your fight,
Even when I can't make it right.

I see you cry,
I lose my mind.
The odds you will defy,
'Cause you're just that kind.

I know it’s dark,
Let me be your light.
You've left your mark,
So I'll shine bright.

I will stand by you.
I'll do all that I can do.
When you’ve done all you knew,
And you can't make it through.

If you find you can’t cope
Let me be your hope.
I will fight your fight,
Even if I can't make it right.

This hurt us all,
To see your pain.
And I'm too small
To stop this rain.

Yet when the sky opens wide,
And the clouds poor out their tears,
You won't need to hide,
I'll steal your fears.

I will stand by you.
I'll do all that I can do.
When you’ve done all you knew,
And you can't make it through.

If you find you can’t cope,
Let me be your hope.
I will fight your fight,
Even if I can't make it right.

I will never let you fall,
I’m always here to catch you.
And one day you'll stand tall,
And look back at what you've been through.

Right now you frown,
'Cause the old times you miss.
And I know you feel run-down,
But you're gonna beat this.

You're stronger than I could ever be,
'Cause you're still laughing.
And you mean the world to me,
So keep on pushing.

I refuse to lose you,
So don't let go.
We will fight together, like we always do.
Because I love you, always know:

I will stand by you.
I'll do all that I can do.
When you’ve done all you knew,
And you can't make it through.

If you find you can’t cope,
Let me be your hope.
I will fight your fight,
And we will make this right.

The author's comments:
I have always been surrounded by family and friends suffering with cancer. This poem is a small token of appreciation to show them how proud I am of them for fighting and to let them know that I will always be here to support them.
