Stifling silence

Stifling silence reigns hollow and cold
flesh statues and stone faces all immobile
witnesses to sorrows and beauties untold

Song's flightful fancy made them bold,
infused them with life for one small while
now stifling silence reigns hollow and cold

It drew blush from sigh with memories of old,
gave breath to clay and made it infantile
witnesses to sorrows and beauties untold

Rock remembered pure sunshine pure and gold
a mask cracks in the trace of a smile
then stifling silence reigns hollow and cold

And time had its way, and the song grew old
sunshine and memory followed pied piper-style
witnesses to sorrows and beauties untold

Flesh statues and stone faces crumble from their mold
dusty audience falls in whispers for miles
stifling silence reigns hollow and cold
dead witnesses to sorrows and beauties untold
