As evening has fallen and the night is still,
The flames dance as children crowd around,
Laughing and playing to pass the time,
The snow falls softly to the ground.

The Flames dance as the children crowd around,
Wishing for the warmth the fire radiates,
Laughing and playing to pass the time,
The hungry children cry for their mother.

Wishing for the warmth the fire radiates,
As the come in from the cool outdoors,
The hungry children cry for their mother,
So she places a dinner plate before them.

As the come in from the cool outdoors,
The mother struggles to contain her emotions,
So she places a dinner plate before them,
Hoping to ease their fear.

The mother struggles to contain her emotions,
As her children say their prayers and she says one of her own,
Hoping to ease their fear,
She'll tuck them tightly into warm beds.

As her children say their prayers and she says one of her own,
She prays that one day soon,
She'll tuck them tightly into warm beds,
As evening has fallen and night is still.
