13 dying roses

By
13 dying roses on my windowsill
Can’t catch the sun because they’re deathly ill
Stay in the same spot for over 3 days
My sister says that it’s just a phase.

‘You’ll get over him’, she says with a smile
‘It may hurt now, but it’ll just take a while…’

‘But I love him’ I cry
‘If he doesn’t love me, I’ll just die’
Oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why…
Did I meet him back in July?

Oh, those 13 dying roses on my windowsill
Won’t catch the sun because they’re deathly ill
Stay in the same spot for over 5 days
My sister says that it’s just phase.

‘You’ll get over him,’ she says with a smile
‘It still hurts now, but it’ll just take a while…’

Oh that goddamn summertime,
Oh that goddamn summertime.

I won’t do the details or say even the name
It’s not for me to point the blame…
It’s just I’m afraid of what you’ve become
You were such a perfect boy, but now, just numb, just numb.

Why did you write me those words, those letters?
Without them, we’d both be much better.
But now I lay here just thinking of you,
I want you to know my love was true, so true.
But I’m still wondering why oh why oh why….
You told me you loved me too…

But those 13 dying roses on my windowsill
Don’t catch the sun because they’re very ill…
Stay in the same spot for over 9 days…
They’re petals a’ fallin’, they lay in decay.

Last night I had a little talk with my heart
I said to her, ‘get smart, get smart’,
‘You know this boy is not what you need
‘Because of him you just bleed, bleed, bleed’

There are no more dying roses…because they’ve already passed….
As for you, well, you’re a thing of the past…
The memories of you I just threw away…
And whole my heart will stay, will stay

I let the sun’s rays in now,
For always, always, always.
