I lay awake,
For goodness sake,
And think about your lips.

And though you're gone,
It won't be long
Till my hands are on your hips.

The quiet night
Has not one light,
But I know a trick:

I'll close my eyes
And count to five
And you'll touch my fingertips.

You're my lullaby,
My beddie-by,
Hold me oh-so tight,

Don't let me go,
I need you so,
You are my only light.

The trick fades 'way
And the next day
I lie awake once more.

I toss and turn
And slowly yearn
To hold you; at my core.

I need your touch
So way too much,
You're all that's in my head.

Closed eyes once more,
count down from four,
I'm transferred to your bed.

You're my lullaby,
My beddie-by,
Hold me oh-so tight,

Don't let me go,
I need you so,
You are my only light.

With such delight,
We end the night
I go about my day.

The pain is gone
the week's not long
But one frightful night I lay.

I lose my sleep
Alone I weep
I need your sweet embrace.

Busy as a bee
Count up to three
And then I see your face.

You're my lullaby
My beddie-by
Hold me oh-so tight,

Don't let me go
I need you so,
You are my only light.

Until one day
You'd gone away
Your face I could not see.

Count down from five
Still not alive
And not from four or three.

Not two not one
I came undone
How could this poss'bly be?

I need you so
But you let go
I cried as I thought this:

You're my lullaby
My beddie-by
Hold me oh-so tight,

Don't let me go
I need you so,
You are my only light.

A year went by
And here I lie
Without a wink of sleep.

My tired heart
Just lost a part
But will not miss a beat.

I lived alone
All on my own
Without you there for me.

And as I cried
And as I died
A sound that made me scared.

And then I saw
and was in awe
of what was standing there:

The love who left
Who knew me best
Returning back to me.

With teared up eyes,
laid on my prize
Of so much suffering,

I tried to speak,
But was too weak
She stopped me there, to say:

I'm your lullaby
You're my beddie-by
We'll hold each other tight,

Won't let you go
I need you so
We are each other's light.
