One Single Lie

That hallowed picture burns in sight,
When I look at it, crying, every night.

I see a man so warm and fine,
And I thought, forever you’d be mine.

But you lied and fled on that dark, cold eve,
How was I to know you’d ever leave?

Our passion was high and differences spared,
You made me believe that you really cared.

But if you had cared, with all of your heart,
You wouldn’t have had any reason to part.

But you did and you left; now I sit all alone,
And stare at the picture while I sob and moan.

For you’re gone and you’re free,
Yet buried under my tree.

I found you alone, in a small quiet shack,
I showed you my love, and then brought you back.

So I look at the picture every night and cry,
And I think, it all started with one single lie.
