Somebody Once Told Me This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Somebody once told me
it'd all make sense one day
but they failed to give a reason
for why they walked away.

Somebody once told me
that I was beautiful, too
but they never stopped to criticize
all I tried to do.

Somebody once told me
that hard work's the only key
but they never did explain
why others lived for free.

Somebody once told me
that I had true potential
but they didn't say how to use it
and now I'll never know.

Somebody once told me
I could do everything and more
but they didn't hesitate
to reach out and close the door.

Somebody once told me
to not listen to the noise
but they didn't tell me how
and I can't hear my voice.

No one ever told me
I could escape all of their words
they all spoke so loudly
that I was never heard.

The fourth stanza seems to lose the flow that's so prominent throughout the rest of your poem.

I love the last stanza though.
