The Essence of Her Soul

March 17, 2011
I am the clever prey hiding from the meticulous hunter
I ponder why the best of us have to die
I hear birds cry at the first gunshot
I see stampeding animals that share in my capricious fears
I want to die peacefully
I am the clever prey hiding from the meticulous hunter

I pretend that I am stronger than my enemies
I feel hopelessly devoted to my heart's whispered pleas
I touch the petals of a forgotten white rose
I worry that I'll misplace the home I'm searching for
I cry over the people who never had a chance to live
I am the clever prey hiding from the meticulous hunter

I understand that being lonely doesn't mean you are alone
I say that everyone is entitled to their own pursuit of happiness, including me
I dream of a new world where love spreads like violence and enemies live in peace
I try to be the change I want to see in the world
I hope they can see there’s more to me than meets the eye
I am the clever prey hiding from the meticulous hunter
