Static

Ringing out a shot
rain falls cool and hot
as I am here distantly tonight
The colors flash in show
a spectacle of such grandeur

I know you've done this
just for me
What are we
But slaves of human tendencies
testifying to the world in all it's cruelty
that we will not feign
and memories remain
what has gone away
was never really lost

Lying on cement
What was our intent
Staring in the sky that mourned a loss
Gazing at the hues
what did you have to lose
that meant more to you
than it did to me
What are we
But slaves of human tendencies
testifying to the world in all it's cruelty
that we will not feign
and memories remain
what has gone away
was never really lost

When confusion paints the rules
who knew it would be cruel
to turn against a friend
who misses who you were
And how she knows
as all her sorrow goes
to more important tasks
you do not catch her eye

What are we
But slaves of human tendencies
testifying to the world in all it's cruelty
that we will not feign
and memories remain
what has gone away
was never really lost
