Leaves on Fire

Once calm, fury blazes anew
Thrashing out against branches, steel rods of strength
The leaves are on fire, watch for a few

Though persistence surely has a clue
Those leaves tumble down, the captors escape
Once calm, fury blazes anew

Stuck on the pavement, cars driving right through
a patchwork quilt, each square a crimson spectacle of nature
The leaves are on fire, watch for a few

Frigid wind shakes off the morning dew
Crystal drops fly off rigid forms
Once calm, fury blazes anew

Majestic trees soon lay bare, on cue
their gaunt branches twist and reach out longingly
The leaves are on fire, watch for a few

One final rage against winter’s cold, it’s true
Nature’s last bright display before a world of white
Once calm, fury blazes anew
The leaves are on fire, watch for a few
