Days seemed to drag, one by one
One of the last times I held his hand
Hand in hand my dad and I
I skipped along the sidewalk
Walk and talk, time to relax
Lax rules made time stand still
Still running ahead, I squished a sullen weed
We’d walk along the leave-matted pier
Peer over the edge, gaze on the rocks below
Below us swam the little fish down there
Their homes among the algae in the sea
See the turquoise water in an undulating wave
Wave goodbye to the fish, I’ll be back tomorrow
Tomorrow came but I did not return
Turn back time and I would’ve gone but I forgot
Got tangled in this hazy, grown-up daze
