A Gift to My Grandmother
All my life you've been there,
Despite the struggle and the pain.
You've seen so many anniversaries
And another comes today.
You're a true symbol of strength
And yet as gentle as a dove.
You are the only one who
Has ever showed me a mother's love.
As I sit here typing,
Trying to find the right words,
To show how amazed I am
That you fly as free as most birds.
You've taught me much,
In my brief flash of life,
Like when to use words of peace
And when to pick up the fight.
In closing let me say this:
Though I can sometimes act like a dick,
I wish you a happy birthday,
Sincerely yours, Nick.
