Soap

Soap will wash away the blood
Streaming down your calf
When a rusted razor penetrates your skin
Soap won’t wash away the sting
Seeming to reoccur over and over again
Soap will wash away the coffee stain
On your sisters blouse
Soap won’t wash away the guilt
Of blaming it on another
Soap will wash away muddy cleats
After a rainy Saturday soccer game
Soap won’t wash away the sacrifice
And endurance
It took to score the winning goal.
Soap will wash away oils on the skin
Soap won’t wash away the blemishes
Already emerging
Soap will wash away the thick chunks
Of dark chocolate
Embedded in the snow white carpet
Soap won’t wash away the melting
Sensation on your wet tongue
That distracted you in the beginning
Soap will wash away the evidence
Of the murder
Soap won’t wash away the consequences
Of the crime
Soap will wash away the black
Pools of masquera surrounding
Innocent eyes
Soap won’t wash away the mistake made that will change
Your life forever
