Sometimes

By
Sometimes, I want
To just run.
My feet pounding
On the ground.
My heart beating
Like a drum.

Sometimes, I want
To fly.
The wind carrying
Me so high.
My soul soaring
Toward the sky.

Sometimes, I want
To be free.
But the want is suppressed
Inside of me.
It’s not a want
As much as a need.

Sometimes, I want
To be alone.
Only me
Inside my home.
Not needing
Yet to roam.
Sometimes, I want
To be with others.
Cousins, aunts,
Sisters, brothers.
Uncles, pets,
Father, mother.

Sometimes, I want
To be someone else.
With more power,
With more wealth.
Someone who’s not
Just myself.

Sometimes, I want
To be me.
It’s what I’m good at
As you can see.
But just being true
To myself is key.
