"...there it is [the moral]." - The Things They Carried pg. 13

All the while knowing you,
Exchanging all our time,
Never knowing what to do,
And keeping stray of crime.

You traded in my memories,
So I feel in debt to you,
We never tried to climb those trees,
That left us feeling new.

And I still know how to act,
But you, my dear, are still,
I wonder now if you're intact,
And my eyes start to fill.

I know how you feel from another angle,
Loving but never felt for,
And so your thoughts are left to dangle,
Or fall upon the floor.

I worry sometimes what happened to my other,
My only childhood friend,
Back then he was almost like a brother,
Now he's on a different end.

I speak now to him alone,
Because our selves are one,
I'm sorry for being the wrong tone,
But mercy, they have none.
