A Peach Tastes Like Summer

A peach tastes like summer.
It tastes like lazy days –
Days spent laughing
And giggling with friends.

A peach tastes like summer –
Like pools and pool parties –
Like bikinis and tan lines.
Like the beach.

A peach tastes like summer.
When you eat it, heat flocks
From the air, to you.
Humidity, damp, stifling heat –
That can only be found in the heart
Of tank top season.

A peach tastes like summer.
It reminds you of shorts
And tee-shirts
And anklet bracelets
And clothes that are rainbows of color.

A peach tastes like summer –
Like fun and joy mixed with water
That only intensifies, as lemonade
Is used to quench thirst and heat.

A peach tastes like summer.
When burning sidewalks cause you
To hop from foot to foot
When walking down the street –
Barefoot – no shoes.

A peach tastes like summer
And rain showers - warm and sudden.
Torrents pouring on your head
While you laugh and laugh –
Running around outside,
Getting wet, without an umbrella.
And watching the rainbow that comes afterward.

A peach tastes like summer
