Shattering Glass

And there he stood
A vast, mountainous peak of anger
Rage
Madness.
The Demon.

Do you DARE to look evil in the EYE?...

The man gapes in fear
His eyes
Oh, his horrible eyes!
They gaze upon the man
Unleashing an evil more sinister
Then he ever imagined

Seeing is BELIEVING…

There is only one thing—
One single, inordinate thing
He can do.
Run.

Run, RUN as fast as you can…

His old heart pounds furiously
Against his frail bones
Screaming.
Crying.

STOP, PLEASE STOP!...

His world merges onto the fast lane.
His blood races through his veins.
The adrenaline shocks his nerves.
An unforgettable feeling.

ZOOM, zoom, zoom...

The word “help”
It’s easy, right?
H-E-L-P
He takes advantage of the word
We all do
But he needs it.
Now…

It won’t come OUT…

And finally
The fear settles in.
First comes the praying—

Hail Mary, full of GRACE…

Then comes the memories
The happy ones
Increasing in meaning
And then the undulated nausea
Twisting his insides

The LORD is with thee…

And there goes his heart again,
Faster and faster
Gaining speed by the minute
Somebody, stop the horror!

STOP! STOP! STOP!...

The speed is unbearable
Unimaginable
His breathing seems weak
His mouth becomes parched
His legs begin to give
Into the pain
No, not now!

Don’t .GIVE. Up…

SHATTERD!

The man doesn’t realize it at first
The glass crashing on the floor
Shard after shard

SEE no evil…

His hand drips with blood
Splashing like raindrops
Seeping through the cracks

The BLOOD of the innocent…

He stares with perplexity
At his unfathomable reflection
It’s surreal
But believable enough for him to see…

The image of his FEARS…

The raging, wary eyes
His own;
The piercing, malevolent anger
His own;

Within us all is an EVIL we CANNOT possibly UNDERSTAND…

The face
His own;
The Demon

Himself.
