A SPECIAL PERSON
By Stephen, Age 14
What do I remember about a special person?
She had short brown curly hair,
Eyes looking like the ocean on a sunny day,
Smile that made you forget about all your problems.
What do I remember about a special person?
She brightened people's day if they were depressed,
Always made people feel welcome,
Loved to goof around and just have fun,
Was always staying hip and in the loop.
What do I remember about a special person?
How one day I came home and she was gone,
Died from sudden death syndrome,
How I felt so empty and alone,
Even though I was surrounded by many people.
What do I remember about a special person?
Her sense of humor,
Thoughtfulness towards others,
Loving nature,
Always thought of everyone before herself.
What do I remember about a special person?
She was an angel trapped in a human's body,
I do miss her lovely soul,
I won’t ever forget the memories,
Of my mom, Sharon Wolff.

The author's comments:
My mom suddenly died when I was 12 years old. I came home from school and she was gone forever. I couldn't write this poem to face her death until now, at age 14. I hope my poem helps other people with painful losses to reflect on the importance that special person had in their lives.
