Red

I stare at you,
And you stare too.
A single tear shed,
Though all we can see,
Is the color red.

It’s the color of roses, the color of love,
The color of anger, the color of blood.
What other pigment, in the spectrum of light,
Can cause feelings so mixed,
Heart breaks so incredibly tight?

Can you truly say that a color is deep?
Well, red comes down, and hits at a depth of six feet.
There’s no simple pattern to describe a hue so obscure,
A complex color so very immersed,
It’s incredible power to deceive and allure.

When I look into your eyes, am I scared? Am I afraid?
That the color’s come out and my heart feels betrayed.
Our eyes intertwine and our feet lock to the ground,
If not an emotion of love, then an emotion of hate,
If not hate, then a new feeling’s unwound.

I stare at you,
And you stare too.
A single tear shed,
Though all we can see,
Is the color red.
