Sleep's Last Fight

April 18, 2010

In the gray morning
With light on my face
Lying in bed
With minutes to waste

Dream in and dream out
Not really awake
Soothing dull light
And nothing at stake

Time sits still
True peace overflows
Nothing to think of
Nothing to show

Comforted and silent
With first waking thoughts
Eyes slightly open
Hair tangled in knots

Grasping last dreams
And shutting eyes tight
Curled up under blankets
Sleep’s last fight

The silence waits, hesitant
Of the feud to occur
The daylight loses badly
And mind returns to a blur

In the gray morning
With light on my face
To sleep another hour
Mind running in place

This is a poem about one of those mornings where the sky is gray, the light is soft, and you're only half awake. Pure bliss. :)
