Hide and Seek

It was a game.

It was survival.

She played for fun.

She wanted to live.

Ten seconds to hide.

Five seconds would have been lucky.

She giggled under the blanket.

She muffled her tears.

Her friend looked everywhere.

This man was not her friend.

She twiddled her thumbs.

She prayed.

Her tummy growled.

Her stomach throbbed.

She yawned.

She held her breath.

Her eyes shut.

Her eyes shut.
