Begging for Love
A small little girl of only six
Caught in a mess she could fix
She was much more than lost and left
For, in her heart there had been a theft
The love she had felt for six whole years
Abruptly replaced with nothing but tears
So she whispered her plea in a soft sweet way
And under her breath this is what she did say
‘Let me be held, let me be kissed
A hundred times over, please let him exist
Let me feel love with all of my heart
Please let him and I never be apart
And when he comes he’ll take the pain
Only he and I and the world will remain
I beg, let me be loved’
The years went by, and she was still alone
Though, at thirteen she was less than grown
She was more than beautiful but not in her eyes
For the opinion that mattered was only her guy’s
Day by day she could do nothing but try
At the end of the day she could do nothing but cry
She looked in the mirror and all she could see
Was that six year old girl, and her soft sweet plea
‘Let me be held, let me be kissed
A hundred times over, please let him exist
Let me feel love with all of my heart
Please let him and I never be apart
And when he comes he’ll take the pain
Only he and I and the world will remain
I beg, let me be loved’
At sixteen she had had more than one man
But, she found, one after another they all ran
She didn’t know why, she wasn’t dumb
But maybe, just maybe it was what she had become?
She was confused and scared
And felt as if no one in the world cared
Once again, in her reflection all that she found
Was that small girl and the words and their sound
‘Let me be held, let me be kissed
A hundred times over, please let him exist
Let me feel love with all of my heart
Please let him and I never be apart
And when he comes he’ll take the pain
Only he and I and the world will remain
I beg, let me be loved’
At last, she was full grown and even at heart
For, she had found something, she hadn’t known at the start
She was beautiful and wonderful and now she could see
That she didn’t need a man to exist or to be
Her childish dreams she had finally shattered
She loved herself now and that was all that mattered
Without worrying about another she was able to soar
She was able to go to greater heights, for
She didn’t need to be held, she didn’t need to be kissed
She no longer required those things to exist
And for once she felt love with all of her heart
Because, she knew from herself she would never part
And she had found she still was pained
But even with it the world still remained
For she was loved
