Perhaps it's impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be

rain coming down in sheets
t-shirt, jeans, bare feet on wet ground
face turned towards the sky
arms spread wide, palms open
trying to catch the welcome, sweet bliss
of the steady cold that creeps under the skin
and into your bones, feeling so alive
so still, so long
the drops never stopping
won't leave until they do
your only wanted friends out here
seeping into your clothes, hair, into your closed eyes
clouds crowd the sky
dark and grey like a bad omin
but you know what they really mean
you know what the rain brings
and what the sun takes away
I watch as you take a deep breath
the droplets slowing down
then I watch as you let out a sigh, open your eyes, wave to the sky, say good-bye
just as I must do, for now the sun is coming
I look down over you and blow you a kiss
that lands near you
and shakes the ground like thunder
you look up in alarm
I'm sorry, I must be more gentle
I send a water droplet your way
that lands on you lip, a softer kiss
and I bid you farewell
we will surely meet again
