To shrink, to grow,
To wonder, to know,
To change, to stay,
To stand, to lay,
To hope, to fear,
To go, to come near,
Is what it means to be alive.

To laugh, to cry,
To live, to die,
To work, to play,
To mourn, to be gay,
To touch, to breathe,
To take, to leave,
Is what it means to be alive.

To think, to dream,
To judge, to deem,
To read, to write,
To love, to fight,
To listen, to learn,
To build, to burn,
Is what it means to be alive.

To worship, to adore,
To have less, to want more,
To hug, to kiss,
To live a life of youthful bliss,
To spend, to save,
To have freedom, to be a slave,
Is what it means to be alive.

For all of these feelings on which we thrive,
Is what it means to be alive.
