   Wheels rattled

On the pavement like icy rain

Pounding on a paper roof,

Pausing for split seconds

As both skate and rider sailed

Over a cone.

In the air,

The world seemed to pause.

Wind

And gravity

Ceased with the pounding rain.

Bang!

The thunder,

Again the rain.

Twisting and sliding,

Soaring and landing,

Ballet of the street.

But the tiniest of rocks caught the front truck

and the pavement did its share

By grabbing the

Skater's bare knee.

The storm was over.
