Summer Pleasures
By Alice R., Swampscott, MA
Peel back the skin,
Thick and swollen.
Dig in deep with oval thumbnails.
Watch the citrus spray on
sunburned, laughing faces.
Now,
Separate
One icy sliver with thin wrinkled skin,
And sink sharp teeth in deep.
Break away.
Taste the tart.
Taste the sweet.
Let the juice run.
And peel again.
