"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."-Edgar Allen Poe

When the paper walls of lucidity
Fold in all around me,
And when transient moments in time
Send my fears to an uphill climb,
And when the torrents of affliction drive me blind,
And when the words inside escape my mind,

It’s just the way you look at me,
And I have to say there’s something in my eye.
In case you don’t know why
These tears, at full-tilt roll,
It’s because my veins burn eternal cold.
Am I dead or might I die,
If I cannot cry?

That is why I cannot complain
Even when those little songs you sing
Plague me beyond insane.
Because when I cannot cry,
And there’s no one there to ask me why,
I sing that song with the annoying rhyme.
Not because I think I should,
Because heaven knows I'm no good.

And sometimes you smile,
To let me know you care,
Because uncertainty is oft the only burden
Too great for me to bear.
And you never fail to remind
Of a Savior who knows
Even the deepest corners of my mind.

And even though
You say “let’s roll like pizza dough”,
And even though
You eat a pickle louder than anyone I know,
And even though
You debate me like a pro,
And even when
You look at me like in measures of craziness I’m a ten,

You’ve made me realize
Who I am in God’s eyes.
And time won’t let me forget
Your curious wit
Or your steadiness
When I’m a shaking mess.

So let me just say
I look at tomorrow
And a hundred years away
And in the future,
Come what may,
I know for certain,
I won’t forget a single day.

This dedication portrays in its transition from florid language to simple the change in my life as I have discovered the meaning of opening up and letting people in.
