   Ancient Wonder

Acropolis
Age of Pericles wonder
Rising abruptly above the city.

Grand pedestal
An oblong mass of rock
Where venerable gods and goddesses once stood.

Parthenon
Ancient ruins honoring those gods
High above a city entrenched in tradition.

Silent observer
Once standing tall
A primitive ruler, an awe-inspiring shrine.

Athens
Aged center of philosophy and culture
Once a majestic resource of learning and trusted scholars.

Knowledge giver
Offering her wealth of secrets through men like Aristotle -
The peripatetic teacher sharing the wonder of the world around him.
