If my name were God
And I built this world on my own,
I would steal a million colors
From the rainbow
And put them all in my fist
When I was ready,
I would let them all go.

If my name were God
And I built this world on my own,
I would make the Earth a painting
Filled with the colors I stole from the rainbow
Striped with the colors that came back to me
Splattered with the colors that ran away
And split their souls to use half for my painting
And the other to survive
It would be a beautiful painting.

If my name were God
And I built this world on my own,
I would record a CD for my Earth
Filled with the soundtracks that I remember
Even though I have not heard them
Because they are the songs of emotion
And we all feel emotion
This would be the gift for my Earth.

If my name were God
And I built this world on my own,
I would take every hand of my people
And join them in a circle of fire
But for those who refused to join my circle,
I would burn a hole where their color was
On the painting that I made the Earth
Because, after all, a color with a sin
Is no color at all,
Not at all
Oh, it would be a beautiful painting.

If my name were God
And I were told to build this world on my own,
I would run.
Run far away where no-one could find me,
Deep among scented flowers
I would sit, quietly
With myself
Talking, singing, dancing with myself
Until I was lost
In the scented flowers
In my thoughts
And you picked me up
To take me to a place where dreams
Wandered around aimlessly
In the time they never knew they could spend.

If my name were God,
Through burned holes, colors in paintings,
Songs on records, scented flowers,
I would see only you.
