I Saw You Go

I saw you go,
but didn’t stop you
as I should have done.
I saw you go,
but I did nothing;
neither of us won.
I saw you go,
but kept my mouth shut
when I could have yelled.
I saw you go,
but still, I failed you.
The truth, I withheld.
I saw you go,
but let you walk on
though that open gate.
I saw you go,
but I turned my head,
and now it’s too late.
