Sleeping Dogs Lie This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine. This work has won the Teen Ink contest in its category.

There is an oldadage,
"Let sleeping dogs lie."
But sometimes I don't
Wantto.
Sometimes I want
To shake that
Wretched mutt
Until itattacks,
And feel its teeth
Tear
Into my flesh.
I want to shakethings up.
I don't want to let
Sleeping dogs lie,
And I don'tthink
Ignorance is bliss,
And I don't want to leave
Well enoughalone.
If this is "well enough" -
Nuclear weapons,
Globalwarming,
Imminent violent war,
Rampant fascism,
And religious franchisewars -
Then as whatever-god-exists as my witness,
I will not now,
Norwill I ever
Leave well enough alone.
That dog's gonna get a smacking.
