He stares through iron bars,
and he's staring freedom in the eyes.
The caged bird that sings is missing his wings.
Hope is all that he has left,
everything else has been taken from him.
The caged bird that sings is missing his wings.
The song that he sings is sad.
He sings with a broken heart.
The caged bird that sings is missing his wings.
His voice is taken from him.
He has nothing left.
The caged bird that sang is searching for wings.
