We Both Know

This is far from the first time I've tried to explain
and if honesty still counted for anything,
I'd tell you a thousand times again.
But you wouldn't believe me,
So I guess it didn't mean anything.
And every song i wrote for you
was played out of key and without tune.

We both know I'm a sucker for a liar,
and promises aren't truths.
We're just a contradiction, a melody of fiction.
Storybook characters, turning pages backwards,
running from the answers.
Because I think we both know it,
but we don't wanna realize
that no one makes it out alive.

Pay attention and maybe you'll hear
all the things I'm trying to say.
Words can't come close to explaining this
just the way I want to.
There's not enough time in a day,
and night's coming fast.
So listen close as we wait for the stars,
I bet if we tried, we could make them ours.

I really wish I could make things okay
and make your worst nightmares go away.
I'd kill all the bad guys, and save the day
except you never cared about them anyway.
Can you just explain it to me, because I need to know,
how do I save you from yourself?
Please let it go, and let me close.
You know if I could, I would always be here.

We both know I'm a sucker for a liar,
and promises aren't truths.
We're just a contradiction, a melody of fiction.
Storybook characters, turning pages backwards,
running from the answers.
Because I think we both know it,
but we don't wanna realize
that no one makes it out alive.

Boy, if there's one sure thing I know,
It's that your head writes melodies
which your voice sings off key.
But right now, I'd love for you to
sing me anything.

We both know I'm a sucker for a liar
You don't have to prove it.
So let me be, just let me sleep.
You'll haunt my dreams
all throughout the week.
