9 PM
Gunshots shout
Tires Squeal
Sirens wail
Squint eyes
Grope for glasses
Shove behind gigantic ears
Look through shades
Police cruisers
Shadow in cuffs
Go back to bed
Lay for a while
Darkness takes all
Wake up
6:30 AM
Dress
Shower
Pour cereal
Shovel down
7:20
Go to school
Dodgeball
Another bruise on the side of my face
Yay
Finish classes
Get on bus
Crowded
Steaming
Sweat
Window stuck
Pushed into isle
Play Crazy Eights on the floor
5 kids in play
The junkie
The kid with the piercings
The overachiever
The kid who’s always sleeping in class
The cheater
Me
Trip on the way out
Get to the top of the hill
In time for the crosswalk to flash red
Walk home
See a kid smoking
No eye contact
See a kid drinking
Walk faster
Get to door
Drug Dealer on the corner
Shove in key
Get in
Slam door behind
Check house
Clear
4:45
Mom is home
Works
Holed up in office
5:30
Dad is home
Works
Holed up in office
6:00
Cereal dinner
Finish homework
Sort of
Almost 9:00
Brush teeth
Go to bed
9:00
Sirens wail
Sigh
Lay back
Hands on head
Darkness takes all.
