They smile up
At the sunshine
Vague memories of
Disaster
Shinning under
Their black eyelashes
As they flutter in the
Chilly wind

She signs the yearbook
Scratching her imprint
Into the mental images
Of those around her
With those cold pale fingers

Winding down the path
Soothing the broken veins
Icy water trickling
Along smooth skin
As if to say
I’m the remains of
That long summer year
