‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
The clouds hung
In a gray mood
Not yet ready to rain

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
Most people at home
Sitting by the fire
Telling stories of adventure

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
Everything seemed dead
Once in a while
A wind would come
Swaying the tree branches
To and fro

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
The little girl
Holding her hand
Pleading, “Don’t go”
Tears falling down
Down with the gloomy day

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
She closed the door
And the clouds decided
It was time to rain
So down it came
Washing away the tears
Leaving only the sad face
And broken heart

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
The little girl, rocking
Looking out the window
But seeing nothing
Past the pouring rain

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
Taking her car keys
Packing her bags
Driving away

‘Twas a gloomy day
The day she left
