The Doll

The girl had loved playing with the doll
Acting as if it were a real person
But she had grown up and away from it
And had forgotten about it

Acting as if it were an actual person
She understood its silent language
And had forgotten about it
Because she had more important things to do

She understood its silent language
She spoke to it and told it her secrets
But she had more important things to do
And she had abandoned it

She spoke to it and told it her secrets
It had no choice but to listen
And she had abandoned it
Although it didn't move from where she placed it

It had no choice but to listen
As it watched as the girl grew apart
Although it didn't move from where she stored it
Time did not let it wait

As it watched as the girl grew apart
It became dusted and old
Time did not let it wait
And the doll became worn

The girl had loved playing with the doll
Though she never found it again
But she had grown up and away from it
And it was forgotten

This is a personal poem, reflecting on some relationships I have had in the past few years. It is amazing how some friendships can be dissolved so quickly.
