I am From
I am from standing at mom’s side
as she cooked wonderful meals
to dad teaching me to ride a bike
From fighting my sister for room on the back seat
during long road trips
I am from coming home everyday
with mom waiting at the door
From racing my sister to the door at six o’clock to hug daddy first
From holding my brother when he is sick,
until he feels no more pain
From being four years old and punching a boy in the face
over and over again
until he let go of my little sister
I am from family vacations every year
to looking for shells on a beautiful beach
I am from standing in the rain,
as the pearl white casket with ‘mom’ on top
was lowered into the ground
From the 16 hour ride to Florida in the uhaul
containing my childhood memories
as dad started a new life for all of us
I am from the silver locket around my neck everyday
to smooth flowing red hair,
long to the middle of my back
From eyes the color of the tree
we put in the living room every Christmas
From the thousands of kisses from angels, covering my pink cheeks
I am from me
