How long ago was
the last time you smiled
or the last time you felt alive?
Do you know where you're going in this life?

How long ago was it?
that last time you hugged your child.
How far in the past
is the time that you last
made someone else smile?
helped a stranger breathe easier,
even if it was just for a little while?

How long ago was it?
the last time you felt like
you were alive?
And how long ago was it,
that you last fell in love,
and weren't scared of falling apart?
when was the last time you
freely gave your heart?

When was it you last
slept and drempt
without nightmares from the past?
Can you sleep easily at night,
or is that just another fight?
Do you battle the images from the hours before?
or are you numb enough that
you just don't care anymore?

How long has it been since you felt
ANYTHING?
Or have you been numb for so long,
you just can't remember feeling at all?

How long have you been numb?
How far away is the hour you first fell asleep?

How long has it been
since you thought about
Waking up?

The author's comments:
for too long the world has been blind to the horror it is falling into, almost as if we are all asleep. it leads me to wonder, when will we wake up?
