Election Night

Imagine
a future that glistens brighter than the brazen, scarlet sun.
Arms of every tint are interlocked in expectant brotherhood.

Realize
dreaded darkness trespassed upon our nation.
We saw a glimmer in the distance illuminating yellow, razored
teeth of howling, ravenous wolves, which severed our past.

Envision
broadening, blue-golden skies gleaming overhead. Opening to
orderly, yet reveling rallyers after a cleaning shower.

Believe
that the present transforms to something beautiful- a billion
orange-red, spotted, Monarch butterflies stroking through the
evening mist.

Perceive
that our shared destiny is radiant- the blinding, early
morning light that shines after dusk. Reminiscient of hours
before, families across the nation gather on sofas and futons
intent upon outcome.

Our grandmothers solemnly speak of the rank perspiration of
ancestral toil in their mahogany, hand-carved rocking chairs.

Our grandfathers, surrounded by children, grin because they hold
this moment in reverence on their knees thanking God.

America is scaling the fraying, rope bridge of faith.
Imminent seeds will rejoice when they hear of our struggle.
All will appreciate our rocklike conviction.

The thought of potential restoration brings bitter tears to those
that see goodness in humanity. This Change is a passionate, jazz
improvisation that hums to the heart. The swelling of promise
surges through the body like single notes strummed on electric guitar.

The memorable magic, the tenacious trust, I see in the future:
I see in the present. Imagination is now evident-
It is not a dream, but tangible reality. Hope is shining brightly.
